Over the last few weeks we have been extremely busy preparing for the start of the 2016 rally season. The first rally of the year, the Quit Forest Rally is the biggest event on the WA calendar, comprising of three days of competition over 220km of special stages on both gravel and tarmac.
The cars and competitors have to be well prepared to tackle the event and an arsenal of tyres and spare parts also need to be readied for the weekend.
We ran six cars at this year’s Forest Rally with three contesting the full distance in state championship and the other three opting for the shorter Clubman distance which ran on the first day only. Backing our 12 competitors, we had a service crew of 15 who did everything from replacing a gearbox to cleaning windows to keeping everyone fed and watered.
We made the 200km trek south of Perth to coastal holiday town of Busselton a few days in advance of the event ready for our state competitors to head out and write their pace notes (recce). One day is provided by the organisers to write notes and given the number and length of the stages, it is a large task to complete in the day.
With recce finalised on the Thursday, Friday was spent completing some shakedown kilometres around the tarmac super special stage before the rally got underway proper on Friday evening.
